Don’t worry—with a little creativity, you can use Google Flights to uncover similar discounts for your exact travel dates.

In this article we’ll share some expert tips and tricks on how to experiment with different travel dates and make the most of Google Flights’ features to find deals that suit your needs.

Superdeal as a starting point

It’s important to know that Superdeals often appear in clusters. This means that dates close to those we provide may also offer similarly low prices:

Superdeals Cluster

We typically highlight a Superdeal with sample departure and arrival dates that are likely to offer the lowest fares within the cluster. To facilitate your booking, we provide a link to the deal on Google Flights, directing you to a page featuring the flight ready for reservation.

Price drops, such as those on Superdeals, are rare. If you come across travel dates that fit your plans, it’s a good idea to book them as soon as possible. The deal on your route may not return for your chosen dates.

You shouldn’t pay regular price for flights

Take advantage of Superdeals and save 40–80% on economy and business class fares.

💡 Superdeals can also work for different travel dates. You should think of the Superdeals as launchpads for securing the deals you truly want.

Alternative dates

If a route has multiple clusters of Superdeals, we suggest additional travel windows for your consideration. These recommendations are available in the Alternative dates section at the end of each Superdeal description.

Clicking Explore on Google Flights button will take you to a page where you can see these dates and easily modify them.

Price fluctuations

Flight prices constantly change. Airlines dynamically adjust fares based on real-time booking trends and competitor pricing. Typically, as the departure date gets closer, airfares tend to go in one direction: up. Prices tend to rise due to limited availability and increased demand as departure dates near.

Superdeals represent a unique exception to this trend, but they are short-lived. Typically, fares begin to climb again within 3 to 7 days after being published on ATC and return to regular prices within 2 to 3 weeks. With this in mind, our most recently posted Superdeals are your best bet for securing discounts at the listed rates. Superdeals that are already a few weeks old are unlikely to have published prices anymore.

ℹ️ We keep deals on our site even after price increases, as they often still provide notable savings compared to standard fares. After all, saving 30% or 40% is far better than paying full price!

Below is an example of a Superdeal that has entered the price climbing phase. Remember, if you visit the Google Flights page and see a message about a price change, the deal may still be worth booking!

Experimenting with travel dates

Exploring different travel dates is a smart and often surprisingly effective way to uncover great prices. Even slight shifts in your itinerary can lead to significant savings.

We recommend starting your search with a sample date from our Superdeals. It will be a lot easier for you to find the deal, since you won’t have to start from scratch. Plus, it immediately places you within a cluster of Superdeals where prices are still low.

💡 When viewing the Superdeal details on Google Flights page, click the ← Google button to open a page where you will be able to modify the travel dates.

Google Flights offers three powerful tools to help you explore different travel dates and potentially save hundreds of dollars on your next trip: Calendar View, Date Grid, and Price Graph.

Use these tools to experiment with travel dates near those listed in the Superdeal. This is our recommended approach when our sample date do not yield the listed 40-80% discounts anymore. You might find that the original price is still available, just with slightly altered travel dates.

💡 If the original Superdeal price is already gone, you may be able to “revive” it by checking the surrounding dates.

Refer to the screenshot below to see where these three Google Flights tools are located, along with a brief introduction to each one. It takes time and practice to master them, so be patient, and you’ll be rewarded with huge savings on your flights!

Calendar view

The calendar is your first stop for date flexibility. Once you’ve selected your route, click on the departure date field to open a two-month calendar view. Each date displays the lowest available fare, with the best prices highlighted in green.

Scroll through different months using the arrows to see how prices fluctuate throughout the year. This view is perfect if you have some flexibility with your travel dates but prefer to travel within a specific month.

💡 The prices you see are based on the length of trip you initially specified. For example, if you originally searched for a 14-day trip, changing the trip length can often lead to significantly different fares.

Date grid

Date grid offers an even broader perspective. You’ll find this tool just below the flight results. This opens a grid showing prices for various combinations of departure and return dates around your selected dates.

The grid is particularly useful for weekend trips or short getaways, allowing you to quickly compare prices across nearby dates. You might find that flying out a day earlier or returning a day later could lead to significant savings.

Price graph

The price graph is your secret weapon for finding the absolute best deals. Click the Price graph icon to see how fares fluctuate over time in an easy-to-read graph format.

You can view prices for trips of your chosen length across a 10-month period. The graph clearly shows price trends and helps you identify peak pricing days and the cheapest times to travel.

Setting up flight price alerts

If the initial fare published in the Superdeal already increased beyond your budget, there’s one more Google Flights tool may help.

Tracking flight prices is a feature of Google Flights that allows you to receive notifications about price changes for specific flights or routes. Since there is always a slight chance that the fare may revert to Superdeal levels (or come close, at least for a short time), you can set up an alert to see if this happens.

Instead of manually checking prices every day, the price tracking tool will do it for you. You will receive email notifications whenever there is a significant fluctuation in flight prices.

To set up Google Flights price tracking for Superdeal:

  1. Ensure you are logged into your Google account
  2. Open Superdeal details on Goggle Flights (click Book on Google Flights button).
  3. Look for the Track prices toggle located at the top of the results page.
  4. Enable the toggle to start receiving alerts for that particular route.

ℹ️ Alerts are triggered for both price increases and decreases. Unfortunately, you cannot customize alerts to receive notifications solely for price drops.

You also have the option to receive a list of alternative flights that might interest you. In fact, you can activate alerts for all of these options at once, making it easier to track and find the cheapest one:

superdeal google tracking options

To view the flights you’ve set up for tracking, simply navigate to the Google Flights homepage. You will see up to three of your tracked flights displayed directly beneath the search box. Click on View all to access a complete list of your tracked flights, including their current prices and any changes that have occurred.

Google Flights typically sends alerts daily if there’s a change in prices, and they will be sent directly to your Gmail account.

While this tool is beneficial for monitoring fare changes, it’s important to be aware of its limitations. Alerts may not capture all real-time price drops, and there might be some delay in receiving notifications. Relying solely on these alerts can lead to missed opportunities.
