The claim is not disproved; it is unverified. That distinction matters before you commit several hundred euros. For UK and European travelers weighing a Nadi break against a straight connection, the decision rests on a fare comparison. The available scan does not make it.
What is documented is narrower: the Nadi–Apia schedule, Fiji’s international departure tax and the passport rules for both countries.
A London-to-Nadi fare alone cannot settle the cost of continuing to Samoa.
What the London–Nadi fare scan shows
Our scan on 8 October 2026 priced London–Nadi round-trip economy. Its lowest fare was €1,430, departing 22 February 2027. The return was 26 February 2027, with three stops in each direction. That is the whole fare evidence for this corridor in this update.
The scope is narrow. The scan contains no Nadi–Apia leg and no Europe–Apia itinerary on the same dates. Without those two prices side by side, it cannot show whether a stopover is free, cheap or expensive. The missing number is the gap between a multi-city ticket and a through ticket.

The scan supplies a long-haul baseline for late February 2027, not an onward fare to Apia.

Nadi–Apia flights: the confirmed schedule
The Nadi–Apia hop is short, but its hours matter. FJ253 departs Nadi at 10:15pm and arrives at Apia at 1:10am, scheduled at 1 hour 55 minutes. FJ252 leaves Apia at 5:00am and reaches Nadi at 6:00am, two hours. The airports are 756 miles apart.
Published flight times vary more than the schedule suggests. Reported durations run from 1 hour 50 minutes to 3 hours 5 minutes, with some pages listing up to 2 hours 50 minutes.
For a traveler connecting straight through Nadi, the practical issue is the clock, not the distance. In either direction, the journey runs through the middle of the night; the leg out of Samoa departs before dawn.
Taxes and passport rules you can confirm
Fiji’s international departure tax is approximately FJD 200 (USD 90). Legislation sets it, not the airline. The current figure comes from the Airport Departure Tax amendment bill before Fiji’s parliament.
That charge is not a stopover fee. It applies to international departures from Fiji whether or not the journey is broken.
Booking window and network reality
A February 2027 departure is already inside Fiji Airways’ booking window. The airline is listed as releasing inventory about 330 days ahead; from 8 October 2026, that reaches roughly 3 September 2027.
According to its Wikipedia entry, the airline is a full member of the Oneworld alliance as of 2026, and its frequent-flyer program is AAdvantage. A Nadi stopover booked on Fiji Airways therefore sits inside the same alliance as the long-haul only if that long-haul is also Oneworld.
There was a sale, but its booking window has closed. According to the aviation trade outlet Karryon, Fiji Airways ran an eight-day network-wide sale for its 75th anniversary from 1 to 8 September 2026. Travel dates ran from 6 October 2026 to 15 August 2027. Those fares applied only to bookings made inside that window and are no longer available.
Samoa connections beyond Nadi
Samoa is not a one-airline destination. Seven airports across six countries have direct flights to the country, with Apia’s Faleolo Airport (APW) as the main hub. Virgin Australia is the only confirmed low-cost carrier serving it.
From the United States, the only non-stop intercontinental connection is Honolulu–Apia, flown by Fiji Airways. Within the Samoan islands, Faleolo–Pago Pago runs about an hour with daily frequency, and Fagali’i–Maota on Savai’i takes about 20 minutes with several departures a day.
For a traveler building a stopover, these onward options matter less than the clock. The whole northbound connection falls in the small hours.
How to read the stopover before you commit
Price the exact Europe–Nadi–Apia multi-city itinerary against a Europe–Apia itinerary on the same dates. Treat any stopover cost as unconfirmed until the airline shows it; the decision also turns on your own constraints, not just a headline number.
Travelers with fixed dates in Samoa. The onward legs are fixed points in the night. If a wedding, a cruise or a domestic connection needs you there on a particular morning, build the Nadi stopover around the arrival and departure times rather than a preferred number of beach days. Less suited: anyone who needs to arrive in Apia in daylight, because neither direction offers it.
Travelers holding Oneworld status. The alliance and frequent-flyer program are worth checking against your own program before you split a trip across two carriers. Less suited: travelers whose long-haul is flown by a non-alliance carrier, where the alliance logic does not carry over.
Travelers booking inside the release window. Both itineraries can already be priced on identical dates for a February 2027 trip, rather than close to departure. Less suited: travelers who cannot commit dates this far ahead.
