Fiji Airways free Nadi stopover rules: one fare or two tickets

By ATC Intelligence

Quick summary

Fiji Airways folds a Nadi stopover into the fare only when the whole trip is booked as one multi-city pricing unit; split it into two tickets and the second flight is billed separately. Stays under 72 hours may avoid applicable departure taxes. Our 16 October 2026 fare scan found US–Nadi round-trips from $849.

The terms are set out in Fiji Airways’ tariff and fare rules as of October 2026, and stopover evidence now covers US-origin routes, not just Australia and New Zealand. Premium-cabin and award stopover pricing remains unconfirmed.

Fiji Airways flew its last Nadi–Dallas service on 7 September 2026, closing the 13.5-hour Airbus A350 route it had opened in late 2024. The exit changes which gateway you book, not whether a Nadi stopover works.

The stopover stays inside the airfare only when the whole trip is priced as one multi-city pricing unit. Split it into two tickets and the second flight is billed on its own. This is a question of how the fare is built. It is not a perk you add after booking.

For travelers booking from the US, Australia, New Zealand or Europe, the question is the same: does the exact itinerary price as an allowed stopover, or has it become two tickets?

What Fiji Airways’ stopover rule actually requires

The itinerary matters more than the hotel you pick near Nadi. Fiji Airways’ published tariff and fare rules set out the terms as of October 2026. They are the document to quote if a booking engine returns something unexpected. The same fare construction sits behind how the multi-city search prices a Nadi stopover onto Samoa flights.

Time on the ground also affects the price. Stays under 72 hours may avoid applicable departure taxes, according to Simple Flying’s stopover guide. A 30-hour stop and a four-day stop can therefore receive different tax treatment on the same routing.

Fiji’s tourism board also publishes a layover guide covering what a stop in Nadi involves on the ground. The distinction between a short layover and a true stopover can change the total.

Which fare families and routes can carry the stopover

Fiji Airways sells economy under four branded tiers: Lite, Value, Comfort and Plus. The fare types and rules page lists what each includes. Those inclusions are only part of the stopover question. The tier you hold, the route you fly and the gateway you leave from together decide whether the extra Nadi ground time prices inside the ticket.

The bigger change since this page last ran is geographic. Stopover evidence now covers US-origin routes, not only the Australia and New Zealand routes that were previously the only supported ones. The page’s earlier assumption that US departures remained unproven no longer holds, though that does not make every long-haul Fiji Airways ticket eligible.

Two gaps remain. The available material does not establish stopover pricing in premium cabins or how partner and award bookings handle a Nadi stop.

Current U.S. gateways after the Dallas exit

Fiji Airways’ US map now runs through two hubs. Los Angeles and San Francisco together carry up to 11 weekly flights, with American Airlines partnerships covering onward Dallas–Fort Worth connections, according to Fiji Journal’s report on the network change. The route that ended used an Airbus A350-900, making the surviving gateways central to a multi-city itinerary from the US.

Fiji Airways is also upgrading its Vancouver service to A350 aircraft, according to the same report. That brings how Vancouver departures compare with US gateways into the decision: the stopover has to be priced from the gateway you actually leave from.

For a US-origin stopover, the relevant itineraries leave Los Angeles or San Francisco, or connect through them on an American Airlines partnership leg. A trip built around a Dallas departure now has to be reassembled.

New South Pacific routes to watch

Two new departures widen the map. Fiji Airways began Gold Coast–Nadi flights on 10 June 2026, according to Nine.com.au. The service runs three times a week and takes about 3 hours 25 minutes.

Western Sydney–Nadi is scheduled to begin on 19 March 2027, according to Executive Traveller. Flights will run three days a week on Monday, Friday and Sunday, operating as FJ990 and FJ991. The launch falls after the current fare cycle, and its stopover pricing is not yet documented.

Neither route guarantees a stopover on its own; each adds an origin from which a multi-city itinerary can be priced. Fiji Airways became a full oneworld member on 1 April 2025, which matters for travelers building the trip on points or partner metal.

Price the stopover before the November window

The cheapest departure in the scan leaves a few weeks to test the stopover construction before booking. The practical steps concern the fare, the ground time and the economy tier.

  • Build it as multi-city — enter Nadi as a stop and the onward leg as a second segment, then confirm the search returns one fare rather than two.
  • Keep the ground time under 72 hours — that is the line where departure-tax treatment, and therefore the total, can change.
  • Confirm the fare family — Lite, Value, Comfort and Plus are the documented economy tiers; premium cabins are not.
  • Watch: Western Sydney–Nadi is scheduled for 19 March 2027, adding an Australian origin whose stopover pricing is not yet documented.

Shift your dates before you shift your gateway, and run the quote before you pay. If it splits, you have lost a few minutes; if it holds, you have a second destination inside the same fare.

Questions? Answers.

Does Fiji Airways offer free stopovers?

A Nadi stopover stays inside the airfare when the whole trip is booked as one multi-city pricing unit. Split it into two tickets and the second flight is billed on its own, so the stopover is only free if the quote returns a single fare.

What are the current special fares offered by Fiji Airways?

The economy fare ladder consists of Lite, Value, Comfort and Plus. Each tier carries different inclusions, and the tier you hold affects whether a stopover prices inside the ticket.

Does the stopover apply only on Europe–Samoa trips?

No. Stopover evidence now covers US-origin routes as well as the Australia and New Zealand flows, so it is not limited to Europe–Samoa itineraries. Premium-cabin and award bookings remain unverified.

Are the stopover terms the same on every Fiji Airways long-haul route?

Fiji Airways’ tariff and fare rules set out the terms as of October 2026, but the quote is still route-specific: the tier you hold and the gateway you leave from decide whether the stopover prices inside the ticket.

Does the 72-hour window matter?

Yes. Stays under 72 hours may avoid applicable departure taxes, so the length of your Nadi stop can change the total for the same routing.
