Quick summary
Cambodia’s tourist e-Visa now costs $30 in total, down from $36 on January 1, 2025, and visa on arrival costs the same $30 for a 30-day stay. The e-Visa takes 3 business days, is single-entry, valid 3 months from issue, and is accepted at Techo, Siem Reap Angkor and Sihanoukville airports.
Since October 3, 2026 no Cambodian visa produces a physical sticker, so the old passport-page argument is dead. The e-Visa is not accepted at Poipet or Cham Yeam, and a free e-Arrival card is required within 7 days of arrival.
On October 3, 2026, Cambodia stopped issuing physical visa stickers. Every visa the country now grants — the online e-Visa, the embassy-issued visa, the visa on arrival — arrives as a digital record.
The price difference has gone too. For travelers from North America, Europe including the UK, and Australia and New Zealand, both tourist routes cost the same $30 as of October 2026. Timing, entry point and paperwork now decide the choice.
The change removes two reasons travelers once weighed one route against the other: the extra online fee and the passport page used at the counter.
What the Cambodia e-Visa costs in 2026
On January 1, 2025, Cambodia cut the tourist e-Visa’s all-in price from $36 to $30, according to the Cambodian government’s January 2025 fee announcement. The cut removed the $6 processing charge from the $30 base fee.
The business e-Visa, called the Ordinary or E visa, fell from $42 to $35 in the same change. It allows a one-month stay. Its single entry and three months of validity from issue match the tourist version. This is the category used for business meetings, volunteering and longer remote-work stays.
The payment method still differs. The e-Visa is paid by card on the official Cambodian e-Visa portal. Visa on arrival is paid in US dollars, with no processing charge. The e-Arrival card is free.
| Route | Fee | Processing | Entries | Stay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tourist e-Visa (T) | $30 total | 3 business days | Single | 30 days |
| Business e-Visa (E) | $35 total | 3 business days | Single | 30 days |
| Visa on arrival | $30 cash | Issued at the counter | Single | 30 days |

e-Visa or visa on arrival: which fits
The choice is certainty against flexibility. The e-Visa is approved before you board. Visa on arrival needs no application before departure, but you join the queue and pay at the counter.
Timing is the first constraint. The official processing window is 3 business days. The Cambodian embassy in Berlin advises applying at least 14 days before travel if you have questions or need to correct documents. A practical buffer of 5 to 7 days allows for a weekend, a public holiday or a request for a clearer photo.
The second constraint is the trip itself. The tourist e-Visa is single-entry, valid 3 months from the date of issue, and caps your stay at 30 days. Leave Cambodia and return on the same document and you are re-entering without a valid visa. A second entry needs a second visa.
At the counter, a banknote can still cause trouble. Rejected cash is a known friction at Cambodian visa-on-arrival booths. Cambodia’s embassy guidance says visa on arrival remains available at all international airports and major land border checkpoints.
Where you can use the e-Visa
The e-Visa does not cover every Cambodian border. The official portal lists three airports: Techo International in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap Angkor International and Sihanoukville International. It also lists two land crossings, Bavet on the Vietnamese border and Trapeang Kriel on the Lao border.
Two commonly used crossings are excluded. Poipet and Cham Yeam, both on the Thai border, are listed as temporarily closed for e-Visa entry, so an e-Visa holder arriving there has no valid document. The Cambodian embassy in Berlin also notes that all Cambodia–Thailand land crossings are closed until further notice.
Air arrivals have separate paperwork. Every traveler flying into Cambodia must submit an e-Arrival card covering immigration, customs and health declarations. It is not a visa and does not replace one. The government’s arrival portal handles it, not the e-Visa portal.
The accepted entry-point list changes. Booking a flight into a port that has dropped off it turns a $30 e-Visa into a wasted $30.
Extensions, overstays and pre-flight checklist
A tourist e-Visa can be extended once. The extension adds up to 30 more days, processed at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh, usually within 1 to 3 working days. That gives a single-entry trip a 60-day maximum. The extension is a separate application, not an automatic renewal.
Overstaying brings more than a daily fine. A US State Department notice dated June 4, 2026 says a stay beyond 30 days also requires a $30 exit visa. Payment is in cash at the Visa Office in Phnom Penh, with 2 to 3 working days of processing. Fifteen days over the limit costs four times the $45 extension once the exit visa is included.
Airlines enforce the passport rule before immigration does. An approved e-Visa can still fail at the check-in desk if the passport expires too soon.
The Cambodian embassy notes that only the visa fee applies when you apply through the official e-Visa portal. No service charge is added.
The five-day window before departure
Apply on the official portal at evisa.gov.kh at least 5 to 7 days before departure. The UK Foreign Office advises carrying a photo and paying in US dollars for visa on arrival.
- Check the port against the official list before you pay. The Cambodian embassy in Berlin advises checking which entry points currently accept e-Visas before you apply.
- File the e-Arrival card free on the government arrival portal within 7 days before arrival.
- Audit the passport for 6 months of validity from arrival and two blank pages, and have a 35 x 45 mm biometric photo ready for the application.
- Watch: the extension fee at the Phnom Penh Immigration Department, quoted at about $45, which is the number that decides whether a 45-day trip is worth it.
A rejected entry point or a lapsed passport costs more than the visa itself, because both are discovered at the check-in desk rather than at home. Sort the four items this week and the arrival hall becomes a formality.
Questions? Answers.
How much does a Cambodia e-Visa cost?
The tourist e-Visa is $30 in total, with no separate processing charge, following the January 1, 2025 fee cut. The business e-Visa is $35. Both are paid by card when you submit the application.
How long do Cambodia e-Visa applications take?
The official window is 3 business days, though the Cambodian embassy in Berlin advises applying at least 14 days before travel if you have queries. Express or rush processing is no longer offered.
Which is better, e-Visa or visa on arrival?
They cost the same $30, so the e-Visa wins when you want the visa settled before boarding and your arrival point is on the accepted list. Visa on arrival suits a last-minute booking, a Poipet or Cham Yeam arrival, or a traveler who prefers paying cash at the counter.
Can a visa on arrival be obtained at Siem Reap airport?
Yes. Cambodia’s embassy guidance says visa on arrival remains available at all international airports and major land border checkpoints, though some land crossings are temporarily closed.
How much does a visa on arrival cost?
$30 for a 30-day tourist visa, paid in US dollars at the counter, with no processing charge. Officers can refuse torn, inked or heavily folded notes.
Do I still get a visa sticker in my passport?
No. Since October 3, 2026 Cambodia has issued all visas digitally, so neither the e-Visa nor the visa on arrival produces an adhesive sticker. Keep a printed or saved copy of the approval email.
