Singapore Airlines cuts First Class to two of nine daily Jakarta flights

Quick summary

Singapore Airlines will fly First Class on only two of its nine daily Singapore–Jakarta services during the 2026/27 northern winter, down from four in each of the past two winters. The cabin is scheduled for SQ950 and SQ964 outbound and SQ953 and SQ965 returning between October 25, 2026 and March 27, 2027, giving eight First Class seats per direction per day.

The other seven daily departures are Airbus A350s with no First Class cabin, so switching flights is not a workaround. For KrisFlyer members chasing Saver awards, the squeeze is the story.

Singapore Airlines has halved the First Class footprint on its busiest short-haul premium corridor.

When the winter timetable takes effect on October 25, 2026, the cabin will appear on just two of nine daily Singapore–Jakarta rotations — SQ950 and SQ964 heading east, SQ953 and SQ965 coming back — and that pattern holds until March 27, 2027.

The arithmetic is blunt. Each of those rotations is a Boeing 777-300ER fitted with four First Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, so the corridor offers eight seats in each direction, every day. The remaining seven daily flights are A350s that were never delivered with the cabin.

That matters well beyond the 90-minute hop. Jakarta is the cheapest First Class and Suites redemption that unlocks The Private Room, Singapore Airlines’ invitation-only lounge at Changi Terminal 3, with Saver awards starting at 32,000 KrisFlyer miles one way. Fewer departures means fewer award seats, and the loss lands squarely on the morning and evening windows premium travelers tend to want.

What the winter 2026/27 schedule actually assigns

The two outbound rotations leave Singapore at 6:50 a.m. (SQ950) and 5:20 p.m. (SQ964), reaching Jakarta at 7:35 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. local time. On the return, SQ953 departs Soekarno-Hatta at 8:40 a.m. and arrives at Changi at 11:20 a.m., while SQ965 leaves Jakarta at 7:10 p.m. and lands at 9:55 p.m.

Pair the morning outbound with the evening return and you get a same-day First Class round trip with more than 11 hours on the ground in Jakarta. That is an unusual amount of time to spend at the far end of a flight that takes under two hours.

The reduction against recent winters is steep. First Class ran on four of nine daily rotations in both 2024/25 and 2025/26, which produced 16 seats per direction per day. In 2019/20, when Boeing 777-300s with eight First Class seats each flew the corridor, the figure was 40.

Add it up across the roughly five-month season and the corridor loses about 1,200 First Class seats per direction. That is half of last winter’s total and 80% below the pre-pandemic level.

First Class footprint on the Singapore–Jakarta route by northern winter season
Winter season Daily flights with First Class Seats per direction, per day Aircraft
2019/20 5 of 9 40 Boeing 777-300
2024/25 4 of 9 16 Boeing 777-300ER
2025/26 4 of 9 16 Boeing 777-300ER
2026/27 2 of 9 8 Boeing 777-300ER

Award pricing has not moved with the schedule. A one-way First Class or Suites Saver redemption on this city pair costs 32,000 KrisFlyer miles, Advantage pricing sits at 60,500, and Business Class Saver requires 22,000 — a 10,000-mile gap that buys the ground experience rather than the seat. Taxes and fees add roughly S$19 on the Jakarta–Singapore leg and S$65 in the other direction, according to the airline’s published award chart.

Singapore Airlines lists the winter cabin assignments on its Suites and First Class timetable page, and the same two Jakarta-bound rotations appear as daily 777-300ER services on its 777-300ER fleet page.

Why the cabin can’t simply move to another departure

First Class on this corridor is a function of aircraft assignment, not a cabin the airline can sell on any departure it chooses. Nine daily Singapore–Jakarta services remain in the winter timetable; seven are flown by A350s that have no First Class cabin, so there is no seat to sell on those flights at any price or mileage level.

The cabin that survives is the airline’s 2013-generation product, fitted only to the two 777-300ER rotations. No public explanation for the smaller Jakarta allocation has been given, which makes this a schedule decision until something says otherwise — and assignments of this kind have been revised mid-season before.

For premium travelers, schedule convenience is now part of the product. First Class and the Changi lounge access that comes with it are tied to two departure windows a day, and travelers tracking how the change ripples across the region can compare schedules through Air Traveler Club’s Asia-Pacific route directory.

How to lock in a First Class seat this winter

With the cabin confined to four flight numbers from October 25, award space — especially at Saver level — is the constraint, not the flying time.

  • Search the flight numbers, not the date. Check SQ950, SQ964, SQ953 and SQ965 individually on singaporeair.com or through KrisFlyer. The other seven daily departures will never show a First Class seat.
  • Price the round trip at Saver. Two one-way Saver awards at 32,000 miles each — 64,000 total — open The Private Room at Changi before departure and again on the way home where the itinerary allows.
  • Use the long layover deliberately. SQ950 out and SQ965 back leaves more than 11 hours in Jakarta without an overnight hotel.
  • Recheck the operating aircraft before you fly. Confirm the 777-300ER and the cabin in Singapore Airlines’ booking or flight-status display; a late substitution would affect both the seat and lounge eligibility.

Watch: whether the airline adds a 777-300ER to another Jakarta rotation mid-season — the single change that would loosen this squeeze.

Questions? Answers.

Which Singapore Airlines flights have First Class between Singapore and Jakarta this winter?

SQ950 and SQ964 operate Singapore–Jakarta with First Class, and SQ953 and SQ965 operate the return, daily from October 25, 2026, to March 27, 2027. All four are Boeing 777-300ER services with four First Class seats.

How many KrisFlyer miles does First Class cost on this route?

A one-way Saver award is 32,000 KrisFlyer miles, or 60,500 at Advantage level. Business Class Saver on the same city pair costs 22,000 miles. Taxes and fees are charged separately on top of the mileage.

Can I reach The Private Room with a Business Class award?

No. Access to The Private Room at Changi Terminal 3 is tied to a Suites or First Class boarding pass on Singapore Airlines, so a Business Class redemption on the Jakarta hop does not get you in.

Is Singapore Airlines cutting flights on the Singapore–Jakarta route?

No. The route keeps nine daily services in the winter timetable. What changes is the aircraft mix: only two departures in each direction are assigned the 777-300ER that carries First Class.
