Quick summary
Naples Capodichino will handle no commercial flights between November 1 and November 30, 2026, while operator GESAC rebuilds the runway and taxiways. Fifteen routes shift to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi — six domestic, nine international — including Ryanair‘s Bergamo service and easyJet‘s Milan Malpensa flights. Anyone holding a Naples booking for November should confirm their airport code now.
Not every Naples flight has a replacement. Salerno takes a focused list of city pairs, and the rest of the schedule is being handled airline by airline.
Naples shuts for 30 days and the Amalfi Coast loses its front door
Between November 1 and November 30, 2026, no commercial aircraft will land at or leave Naples Capodichino. The runway and its connecting taxiways come out, and Southern Italy’s busiest gateway goes quiet for a full month.
If you hold a November booking to or from Naples, the airport code on your confirmation is now the most important detail on the page. Some services move to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi. Others are being rebooked through different airports entirely. A few will simply be cancelled.
The closure is confirmed by the airport operator, GESAC, working with Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC. Fifteen destinations are listed at Salerno for the month: six domestic and nine international.
The timing is deliberate. The works were originally pencilled in for a January-to-March window and have been moved to November, historically the airport’s quietest month. That choice protects peak-season traffic, and it concentrates the pain into the weeks when Campania is already winding down.
What moves to Salerno, and what doesn’t
Salerno is not absorbing Naples. The operator’s replacement-flight notice covers a defined set of city pairs, and carriers are distributed across them rather than duplicated.
Ryanair appears for Bergamo; easyJet for Milan Malpensa. flydubai keeps Dubai, Vueling Barcelona, Iberia Madrid, and Eurowings Düsseldorf and Stuttgart. Transavia covers Amsterdam and Paris, with Air Arabia Maroc, Air Cairo and Neos also listed on selected routes. Salerno’s published November schedule is the authoritative version of that list.
That is a workable network for travellers whose itinerary happens to match it. For everyone else, the airline decides.
GESAC and Busitalia Campania have stood up an extraordinary coach link between Naples Piazza Garibaldi and Salerno Costa d’Amalfi for the closure period, detailed in the operator’s closure announcements. It is the practical answer for anyone without a car who still needs to reach the substitute airport.
| Carrier | Route | November 2026 airport |
|---|---|---|
| Ryanair | Bergamo | Salerno Costa d’Amalfi |
| easyJet | Milan Malpensa | Salerno Costa d’Amalfi |
| flydubai | Dubai | Salerno Costa d’Amalfi |
| Vueling | Barcelona | Salerno Costa d’Amalfi |
| Iberia | Madrid | Salerno Costa d’Amalfi |
| Eurowings | Düsseldorf, Stuttgart | Salerno Costa d’Amalfi |
| Transavia | Amsterdam, Paris | Salerno Costa d’Amalfi |
The commercial damage is already visible. November hotel bookings across the area have fallen by more than 40 per cent, with average occupancy outside the All Saints weekend forecast at roughly 40 per cent. That is a booking collapse arriving before a single flight has been cancelled — and it lands hardest on travellers arriving from abroad, who have the least flexibility to drive to an alternative airport.
Some carriers are expected to route passengers through Rome Fiumicino, roughly two hours north by road. That adds ground time to any itinerary and changes the geography of arrival into the region.

Why airlines cancel the thin routes first
Airlines rebuild a schedule in a predictable order: cut the weakest frequencies, move what can be moved to the nearest usable runway, then rebook the remainder through a hub. Salerno’s 15-route list is the middle step, not the whole plan.
The distinction that matters for passengers is between a flight retained at Salerno and an itinerary changed through another airport. Those are different journeys with different costs, and only one of them keeps you in the region you booked.
Salerno is a smaller facility with a narrower network, and concentrating a month of redirected traffic into it is the obvious pressure point. Expect fuller aircraft and less slack on the ground.
There is precedent for this split approach — move selected services to a nearby airport, add surface transport from the closed gateway’s city centre, and leave the rest to individual carriers. It preserves some direct flying. It does not preserve your original departure time, and it does not preserve your original airport.
Check the airport code before you pack
Naples bookings for November 2026 are already being rewritten, and the itinerary in your inbox may no longer describe the trip you bought.
- Open your booking today. Check the operating carrier’s own management page rather than a third-party confirmation, which may not have refreshed.
- Confirm the airport code. If it has changed from NAP to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi, your ground plan changes with it. Do not travel to Capodichino unless your airline explicitly confirms operations there.
- Build the transfer into your timing. The GESAC–Busitalia coach runs from Naples Piazza Garibaldi to Salerno airport. Allow more time than the timetable suggests.
- Know your options if the flight is cancelled. Under EU261, a cancellation gives you a choice between rebooking and a refund. Whether compensation is also owed depends on how the carrier classifies the cause.
Watch: GESAC’s next works update, which will indicate whether the runway programme is tracking to the published November 30 end date or slipping into December.
Questions? Answers.
Is Ryanair affected by the Naples closure?
Yes. Ryanair is listed on the official replacement schedule for its Bergamo service, operating from Salerno Costa d’Amalfi during November 2026. Passengers should verify the airport shown on their boarding documents, because the replacement airport differs from the one originally booked.
Can I get a refund if my November Naples flight is cancelled?
Under EU261, a cancellation entitles you to choose between re-routing and a full refund of the ticket. Compensation on top of that depends on whether the airline treats the closure as an extraordinary circumstance, so ask the carrier directly how it has classified the cause.
Can Salerno Costa d’Amalfi handle the redirected traffic?
It is a smaller airport taking a defined list of 15 destinations rather than the whole Naples schedule. That limits the strain, but it also means most displaced passengers are not being re-accommodated there at all — they are being rebooked elsewhere or cancelled.
Will Naples reopen on December 1, 2026?
The published closure window runs the full month, with no phased reopening indicated. The airport operator has not announced a contingency date, so anyone travelling in the first days of December should treat the reopening as unconfirmed until GESAC says otherwise.
