Qatar Airways’ Formula 1 stopover packages for the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2026 include a 3-Day T16 Grandstand ticket per person for stays between 27 and 29 November 2026. That puts a race weekend into a Doha connection. The everyday programme offers a subsidised hotel stay on a qualifying transit through Hamad International.
The subsidy is not a promo code. It comes from the state. The hotel rate attaches to an eligible flight ticket, rather than a room booked on its own. For travelers routing through Doha to Asia-Pacific, the Middle East or Africa, the question is whether that saving justifies a longer connection.

How the three-tier pricing structure works
Discover Qatar sells three stopover tiers, priced per person per night on a shared-room basis. Standard covers 4-star properties from USD 14. Premium moves to 5-star hotels from USD 24, or USD 31 with beach access. Luxury covers 5-star hotels with breakfast from USD 83.

The gap between tiers buys a different hotel class and, at the top tier, breakfast. Moving from Standard to Premium with beach access costs USD 17 more per person per night; moving from Standard to Luxury costs USD 69 more.

The booking sequence that unlocks the rates
The hotel cannot be reserved before the flight. Discover Qatar’s portal validates a Qatar Airways booking reference, linking the hotel reservation to the ticket. A hotel booked separately does not create eligibility.
Booking must be completed at least 72 hours before travel, according to Discover Qatar’s stopover terms dated 3 July 2026.
One ticket carries up to two stopover bookings: one for the outbound Doha layover and one for the return. Each is reserved independently. A Standard room on the way out and a Luxury room on the way back are both allowed. Each layover must fall within the qualifying window.
Which routes and tickets actually qualify
Eligibility rests on the ticket, not the departure city. The itinerary must be issued on Qatar Airways stock, with the ticket number beginning 157, or be a qualifying codeshare or oneworld itinerary on a single booking reference through Doha. A separate ticket on another airline does not qualify just because it connects to a Qatar Airways flight, even when the connection is long enough.
The programme measures layover length from scheduled arrival to scheduled departure. Its 12–96 hour window is strict at both ends. Eleven hours does not qualify; 97 hours exceeds the cap.
Award tickets do not qualify automatically: some Avios saver awards are excluded from the stopover programme. The four-night ceiling is a transit rule as much as a commercial one. A longer Doha stay must be booked with the hotel directly at its own rates, not through the subsidised tier.
Entry is a separate question from the ticket. Qatar grants visa-free entry to more than 100 nationalities, while some travelers need an eVisa through the Hayya platform. Immigration officers decide admission on arrival, not the hotel booking. The available sources do not break down the visa-free list by nationality or permitted length of stay.
Where the free transit hotel fits instead
Complimentary Transit Accommodation, also called STPC, is a separate, free programme for eligible 8–24 hour Doha transits. Most travelers confuse it with the paid stopover. The free option has a condition the paid one does not: it generally requires that no shorter connecting flight was available between your origin and destination. If a shorter layover existed, the free room can fall away.
The booking channels differ too. The free option is booked online through Qatar Airways’ stopover page more than 72 hours from departure, or arranged on arrival in Doha inside that window.
How to book this stopover before availability tightens
Miss the booking deadline and the subsidised rate is gone, whatever your layover length.
- Match the tier to the hours: one night for a 12–24 hour transit, two for roughly 48 hours, up to four nights at the 96-hour ceiling. Search a Qatar Airways itinerary within that window, ticket it, then enter the PNR on the Discover Qatar stopover portal, choose a tier, pay, and keep the voucher for check-in. Check a redemption itinerary before building a trip around it, and weigh the transfer buffer at Hamad International before locking dates.
- Keep names identical: the passenger details on the flight and hotel confirmations must match, because the two records share the same booking reference.
- Pack for the free option: if you are on STPC, checked bags stay on the plane to the final destination, so essentials belong in hand luggage.
- Watch: the F1 packages for 27–29 November 2026 are the clearest signal of which dates the programme is pushing.
