The shorter flight does not make the journey a single leg. It departs from Nausori rather than Nadi, so the trip splits into a road leg, an airport and a short hop. The road option is slower but stays door to door, which matters on a first afternoon in the country.
The Mamanuca Islands take 25 minutes to two hours by catamaran, depending on the island. Time your trip around Fiji’s seasons
The dry, cooler season runs May to October. November to April is the wet season, and the same window is Fiji’s cyclone season.
The holiday price peak puts two markets in competition for the same beds. Travelers from North America and Europe are not bound by that school calendar, so their timing is a genuinely free variable.
The shoulder weeks either side of the drier half of the year offer another timing choice. For a trip that has to fall in the holiday peak, the price reflects the company you are keeping.
Where the rules change by departure point
The arrival airport and permit are the same for every traveler to Fiji. What changes by departure point is how you get there and when the crowds fall.
