WestJet promo codes & sales, tested

WestJet's loyalty scheme is called WestJet Rewards, and it is not part of a major airline alliance. Members collect points on WestJet flights, vacation packages, purchases with partner businesses, and spending on WestJet-branded credit cards. Occasional bonus-point promotions can add to the total. There is no meaningful route for moving points in from outside partners, since no major transferable points partners have been identified.

For our own tracking, one mile in this programme is worth about 1.5 US cents. This figure comes from published valuations and is refreshed twice a year. To judge a redemption, compare the points-based price with the cash fare for the same flight, and remember to count the government taxes and fees that still apply on award bookings.

WestJet Rewards has four status levels: Teal, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Status is earned by reaching a spending threshold within a qualifying year, and it can also be reached through the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard. Benefits begin once the threshold is met and carry into the following qualifying year. Silver adds free checked bags, priority check-in and boarding; Gold adds lounge access, priority boarding and upgrades; Platinum carries the highest earn rate and the top travel benefits.

Points can be spent on flights and vacation packages, on seat or cabin upgrades, and on everyday savings with partner businesses. Flight awards are priced using points rather than a fixed award chart, so the cost can shift from one search to the next. Flight redemptions have no blackout periods, but government taxes and fees still apply. Before redeeming, check the total cost in points plus taxes against the cash price, and confirm that the points you need are in your account.

Over the past twelve months we tracked ten WestJet offers: six fare sales, one other promotion, one card or cashback offer, one bonus-mile offer, and one extras or add-ons deal. Because a deal's value depends on when you book and where you are departing from, the date and departure country both shape whether an offer is worth using.

A fare sale offers a percentage off, or a fixed low price, on selected routes and travel dates, usually for a short booking window. Before you pay, check the travel dates, the departure country (sales often apply only to flights leaving from certain markets), the cabin class and fare rules such as baggage, changes, and refunds, and whether the advertised price includes taxes and fees. To judge whether it is genuinely good, compare the final total against recent fares for the same route and dates rather than against the original price shown.

A card or cashback offer typically rewards you with points, miles, or a statement credit after you meet a set spending target within a fixed window, and the reward is often paid only once the purchase period closes. Before relying on one, check the offer dates, whether it applies to your departure country, which cabins and fare types qualify, and whether taxes and fees are excluded from the eligible amount. To judge whether it is truly good value, compare the reward's worth against what you would pay anyway, and ignore any headline bonus that requires spending you would not otherwise make.

A bonus-miles offer gives you extra loyalty miles on top of those you normally earn when you fly, spend on a card, or book through a partner. Before relying on one, check the validity window, since the bonus often applies only to travel or purchases made within certain dates, and confirm the departure country and eligible cabins or fare classes. Also note whether taxes and fees are excluded from the qualifying spend. To judge whether it is genuinely good, compare the value of the miles you would receive with what you would pay in cash for the same trip.
